My favorite cheer:

I am a cheerleader.
It is my claim to fame.
If I had any talent,
I'd be in the game!

No, but I do know one cheerleader from Wilbur Wright that is a pretty good "sport". - Dad

I think they do athletic things. And,they do compete against others . But,I don't think it is a Sport.

Okay, hear it goes.....
They spend countless hours per week in the weight room and at practice (and they don't get the gym floor until all of the sports teams are done practicing at like 7:00); they are forced to adhere to NCAA and institutional academic standards in order to participate; they rarely get scholarships; they spend their weekends and many week nights on the road on buses and in other schools' gyms; they participate in a dangerous activity with the highest "severe" injury rate in the NCAA and their Safety and Standards Manual is TWO INCHES THICK! I'm not sure if I'd call it a sport (outside of national competitions), but it sure is damanding and requires a great deal of skill. I kind of feel sorry for them because everyone makes fun of them - especially the men. I personally believe they are crucial to the atmosphere of a basketball game (not football).
With that said, I will go hide under a rock until the mud slinging is over.
Please note: I will go absolutely postal, pummelling every little girl in a miniskirt and every boy wearing white tights, the next time I see a routine to "Pump Up the Jam."

Try to follow me here. Leading cheers for others who ARE playing a sport, IS NOT A SPORT.
